This Little Light of Mine

This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.
let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Matthew 5:14-16

And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Acts 2:4

For the last few weeks I have written about the spark inside of you that God has placed there, a passion, a cause, something that lights you on fire, and drives you to action.  Yet I have heard from at least one person who simply asked, do I have a spark inside of me?  Did God give me a spark?  Scripture is very clear about this, those who believe in God have this spark, it is something that the Holy Spirit places inside every one of us.  When Jesus left his disciples this was a promise that he made to his followers.

Jesus himself speaks about in Matthew 5, reminding us that we are the light of the world, that this spark is not just something that lives within us, but is something that can inspire and transform the world that we live in.  Jesus speaks not wondering if you might have a spark, but if you believe in Him, there is a spark inside of you that can transform the world that you live in and light you soul on fire.

So where is my spark?  If you are reading this wondered where you spark is, the answer, keep looking.  Jesus promise is that those who believe in Him will receive the Holy Spirit, and when the Holy Spirit gets ahold of you, you will receive Spiritual gifts and abilities to make an impact for God.  A spark in my soul is seeing lives transformed, and seeing people far from God meet Him.  God has made me to be an extroverted person, who can make friends with a door, so that I can meet and work alongside a variety of different people.  What gifts has God placed inside of you, what causes fire you up, what passion makes you wake up in the morning.  Another way to look at is this way from author Fredrick Buechner: “The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.”
