God’s Experimenters

This past week we continued our series wrestling with John 10:10 and Jesus promise of abundant life to his followers.  We opened up Exodus 6 as God addressed Moses before he was sent before Pharaoh for his second time and heard God lay out this promise to Moses:

Say therefore to the people of Israel, ‘I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will deliver you from slavery to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great acts of judgment.

In this passage we don’t see God lay out a clear plan other of how this is going to happen, but instead a promise of who is going to make it happen.  God calls Moses to do something that just doesn’t make great sense humanly, but to have faith that God can do it.  Christ Community Church in Lemont, IL have been talking about this concept using the idea of being God’s Experimenters.  That we would be people who try things, trusting that God is at work in all that he calls us to do.  That we try things knowing that even when we do not succeed or see an outcome that we hoped for, God is teaching us, molding us, and leading us closer to the abundant life that Jesus wants for us.

What are you going to try?  Having some of your non-church neighbors over for dinner?  Signing up to server at church?  Prayer walking your neighborhood?  Investing in a relationship with a non-church friend?  May you be a person of courage and faith like Moses, who trust God, follows his leading, and try things out, knowing that God can do incredible things through our efforts.
