According to research done in 2012, there are nearly 25,00 people that suffer from homelessness in the greater Milwaukee area. There people of all ages and races that go hungry, deal with the weather, and have no place to lay their heads at night. All of this is happening right in our own communities and backyards. 1 John 3:17-18 says, “If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion—how can God’s love be in that person? Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.”
So, what are we going to do about?
The cardboard sleep-out is one small way that we can make an impact. October 3rd-4th we will all spend the night as homeless people to help raise awareness for this need in our community. Each student will provide their own cardboard in which they will sleep in that night, as well as plenty of warm clothes and blankets. We also ask each student to make a generous donation to the food pantry that goes to help feed those in need.
When: October 3rd-4th; 6pm-11am
Where: Trinity Community Church
Bring: Your own cardboard and a generous, non-perishable food donation to the food pantry. You must also supply your own sleeping bag and plenty of warm clothing.
